Elmton Road Parking is a free council-operated gravel lay-by located on Elmton Road, serving Creswell village and Creswell Crags visitors. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 20 vehicles on a first-come basis; it is open from dawn until dusk with no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits are advisable. A village council noticeboard displays local heritage trail maps, notes on Creswell Crags geology, and wildlife-spotting tips (e.g., peregrine falcons, common newts). Benches are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking open fields. Pedestrian paths lead directly to Creswell Crags visitor centre (2 km) and to bus stops on Elmton Road. Seasonal cave tour group arrivals reduce capacity by 5; signage directs drivers to Station Road Car Park (1 km). Maintenance crews clear litter monthly and trim overgrown hedgerows quarterly.
