Free woodland parking with accessible bays and eco-friendly amenities
Bestwood Lodge Drive Car Park is a free surfaced lot offering 100 bays serving the Bestwood Country Parks woodland trails, historic Bestwood Lodge ruins, and picnic areas. Operating hours are dawn to dusk (approx. 6 am8 pm in summer; 7 am6 pm in winter), with no formal lighting to preserve the woodland environment. Eight accessible bays surfaced with compacted stone are situated nearest the main trailhead and visitor center entrance, each featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving for safe pedestrian access. An informational kiosk at the entrance displays maps of hiking trails, mountain biking routes, and park etiquette guidelines. Bi-annual gravel regrading and compaction maintain a level parking surface; perimeter drainage channels prevent standing water during heavy rainfall. Three CCTV cameras provide limited monitoring during operational hours for visitor safety. Covered cycle racks for 20 bicycles and two e-bike charging points (7 kW each) were installed in late 2024 to encourage sustainable travel. Monthly ranger patrols ensure litter clearance, trail maintenance, and visitor assistance. Directional signage inside the lot directs drivers to the exit onto Bestwood Lodge Drive.
