Free woodland and canal-side parking at Bryn-y-pentre
Bryn-y-pentre Wood Car Park is a free council-managed gravel lay-by located off the B4368, serving the Bryn-y-pentre Wood nature reserve and adjacent Montgomery Canal towpath. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 35 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. No lighting or CCTV is provided; daytime visits only. A Forestry Commission noticeboard at the entrance displays maps of the 3 km woodland trails, wildlife guides (badgers, tawny owls), and forest management advisories. Benches are placed near the lot perimeter overlooking the canal. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the woodland trailhead (0.05 km) and to the Montgomery Canal towpath (0.2 km). Seasonal conservation volunteer days reduce capacity by 5; signage directs drivers to the Canal Street overflow lot (1 km). Maintenance crews conduct quarterly vegetation clearance and monthly litter picks.
