Free parking for Bury Ditches hill fort and walks
Bury Ditches Car Park is a free, council-managed gravel lot located on an unnamed lane off the B4499, providing access to the Iron Age hill fort known as Bury Ditches. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 30 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. A Shropshire Council information board at the entrance displays archaeological details of the hill fort, maps of the 1 km circular Bury Ditches trail, and wildlife-spotting tips (e.g., meadow pipits, butterflies). Benches are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the valley. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the hill fort summit trailhead (0.1 km) and to connecting footpaths toward Lydbury North village (2 km). Seasonal guided heritage walks reduce capacity by 5; drivers are directed to the Lydbury North village hall lot (1 km). Quarterly maintenance includes vegetation clearance and litter picks.
