Car Park Main City Centre East | APCOA Interchange Centre, West St, Gateshead NE8 1BH

Central city multi-storey parking with ANPR, EV charging, and live occupancy

Be the first to review

Operated by APCOA, Car Park Main City Centre East is a secure multi-storey facility offering 500 spaces across five levels, located adjacent to Gateshead Interchange on West Street. Entry and exit are barrier-controlled using ANPR; pay-on-foot machines at each level accept card, cash, and contactless payments (day rate £6; evening rate £3 after 6 pm). Sixty accessible bays (12 per level) are positioned next to each lift core and feature dropped kerbs, tactile paving, and extra-length for wheelchair access. The reinforced concrete decks are coated with anti-slip epoxy, and bright LED ceiling panels ensure uniform illumination without glare. 24-hour CCTV cameras with motion detection cover all decks, ramps, and pedestrian routes; onsite security patrols run from 10 pm to 5 am. Rapid EV charging bays (four 22 kW units) were installed on Level 2 in late 2024, accessible via the APCOA app. Pedestrian exits lead directly to Metro Bus stands 1–3 and Gateshead Library. In early 2025, a digital occupancy board was placed at the main entrance displaying real-time space availability by level. Stairwells and lifts are inspected monthly to maintain Fire Safety and accessibility standards. Landscaping planters with UV-resistant shrubbery line the western façade to reduce wind tunnel effect.
