Community parking with EV charging and accessible bays
Thorneywood Car Park is a council-operated surface lot offering 70 bays serving local shops and the nearby Thorneywood Community Centre. Operating hours are 8 am to 8 pm MondaySaturday (free Sundays), with a pay-and-display tariff of £1 per hour, capped at £6 per day; payment is accepted via machines (coin, card, contactless) or the PayByPhone app. Four accessible bays (3.6 m wide) lie within 10 m of the pedestrian crossing leading to the community centre entrance, featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. The sealed tarmacadam surface was resurfaced in late 2023, and thermoplastic bay markings refreshed in early 2024. LED column lighting ensures bright coverage after dusk, while two CCTV cameras monitor all entry, exit, and internal aisles. In 2024, EV charging infrastructure comprising two 7 kW bays was installed near the accessible stalls, accessible via the Pod Point app. Perimeter shrub planters assist with stormwater runoff and provide a visual buffer from adjacent residential properties. Directional signage inside the lot guides drivers to the exit onto Sherwood Rise. Monthly maintenance includes pay machine servicing, litter clearance, and inspection of drainage inlets.
