Town centre parking near Ellesmere castle ruins
Castlefields Car Park is a council-operated surface lot located off Castlefields Road, serving Ellesmeres town centre and the historic castle ruins nearby. The tarmac facility offers 60 marked bays, including four Blue Badge spaces near the entrance and two motorcycle bays. It operates 8 am to 6 pm MondaySaturday; pay-and-display charges of £1.00 per hour (capped at £4.00 per day) apply via machines accepting coins and contactless. Outside payment hours, parking is free, though overnight stays are not permitted. LED lamp columns provide illumination until midnight, and CCTV cameras monitor all aisles. Pedestrian exits lead directly to the towns primary shopping area (0.05 km), the castle ruins (0.1 km), and the canal basin (0.2 km). Two 7 kW EV chargers are installed at the lots southeast corner, billed via a QR code. Seasonal heritage festivals reduce capacity by 15; signage directs drivers to the Town Hall overflow lot (0.5 km). Weekly maintenance includes bay repainting and pothole repairs.
