Free parking for Manifold Valley walks, river views, and heritage sites
Derbyshire Bridge Car Park is a free, Peak District National Park Authoritymanaged gravel facility located near the historic Derbyshire Bridge on the A515, serving visitors exploring the Manifold Valley and nearby attractions such as the Dovedale stepping stones. The unmarked lot accommodates approximately 60 vehicles on a first-come basis and operates from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking is permitted. There is no lighting or CCTV; visitors are advised to park during daylight only. An information board at the entrance provides maps of the Manifold Valley trails, details on local limestone geology, and heritage notes on the old railway line. Benches and picnic tables are provided overlooking the River Manifold. Pedestrian footpaths lead directly to the riverbank (100 m), Trent to Manifold Trail head (200 m), and onto the Dovedale circular route (5 km). Seasonal walking festivals and cycling events reduce capacity by 15%; overflow parking is directed to Alstonefield Car Park (3 km) with a courtesy shuttle service on busy weekends. Maintenance crews clear litter monthly and inspect drainage quarterly.
