Free parking for Elan Valley visitor centre and reservoir trails
Elan Valley Visitor Centre Car Park is a free, charity-operated tarmac lot located on the Elan Valley Estate, serving the award-winning visitor centre and adjacent reservoirs. The facility offers 200 marked bays, including ten Blue Badge spaces near the visitor centre entrance, six parent-and-child bays, and four motorcycle bays. It operates 8 am8 pm daily; no pay-and-display. LED lamp columns provide limited illumination until dusk, and CCTV cameras monitor all entrance and exit areas. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the visitor centre (0.02 km), café (0.05 km), and the main Elan Valley Reservoir trailhead (0.1 km). Benches and picnic tables are available near the lot perimeter overlooking Claerwen Reservoir. Six 22 kW EV fast chargers are located at the lots northeast corner, billed at subsidized rates. Seasonal cycling and walking festivals reduce capacity by 30; signage directs drivers to the Crosstay Car Park (3 km). Maintenance crews repaint bay lines each spring, inspect drainage quarterly, and clear litter weekly.
