Free parking for Ravenquill Quarry and Long Mynd walks
The Port Way Car Park is a free council-managed gravel lay-by situated off The Port Way, providing access to Church Strettons Ravenquill Quarry and Long Mynd foothills. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 30 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. No lighting or CCTV is provided; daytime visits are advised. A Shropshire Hills AONB information panel at the entrance includes trail maps for a 4 km circular quarry walk, geological features of the disused quarry, and wildlife-spotting tips (e.g., kestrels, wild daffodils). Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the quarry. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the quarry path (0.05 km) and onward to Carding Mill Valley (4 km). Seasonal guided geology walks reduce capacity by 5; drivers are directed to the Cow Ridge Car Park (1 km). Maintenance crews clear invasive bracken quarterly and perform litter picks monthly.
