Pay-and-display Quayside parking with EV charging and live occupancy
Garden Street Car Park is a council-owned 150-space surface lot serving the Quayside area, including The Sage, Baltic Centre, and adjacent dining venues. Open 6 am12 am daily, parking is pay-and-display: £1.50 per hour, capped at £10 for 24 hours. Sixteen accessible bays are positioned near the pedestrian exit to Quaysgate pedestrian bridges, featuring dropped kerbs and tactile guiding strips. The tarmacadam surface was resurfaced in early 2024, and thermoplastic bay markings were refreshed in late 2024. LED floodlights on 10 m poles provide bright illumination after dusk, supplemented by building-mounted floodlights from The Sage. The site is monitored by four high-definition CCTV cameras with night-vision capability, and security patrols occur nightly between 10 pm and 2 am. In 2025, two 7 kW EV charging points were installed adjacent to accessible bays, reserved via the councils EV app. Landscaping includes low-maintenance shrub beds along the western perimeter to screen pedestrian walkways. A digital occupancy indicator at the entrance displays live bay availability. Directional signage guides pedestrians to the Millennium Bridge and Baltic Centre through raised zebra crossings with tactile paving.
