Gateshead Leisure Centre Car Park provides 250 bays on a tarmacadam surface, serving the council-run swimming pool, gym, and sports halls. Open 6 am11 pm daily, parking is free for the first three hours; thereafter, a tariff of £0.80 per hour (capped at £6 per day) applies, payable at two pay-and-display machines accepting card, coin, and contactless payments, or via the RingGo app. Ten accessible bays are positioned within 15 m of the Leisure Centres automatic doors, featuring dropped kerbs and tactile paving. The site benefits from dusk-to-dawn LED lighting, ensuring visibility during early-morning and late-evening hours, and is monitored by 24-hour CCTV cameras. In mid-2024, the entire surface was resurfaced, and line markings refreshed. Directional signage guides users to the nearest pedestrian crossing over Alexandra Road, leading directly to the main entrance. Covered cycle racks with capacity for 30 bicycles are located near the accessible bays, encouraging active travel. Bi-monthly maintenance ensures the site remains litter-free and that drainage channels are clear to prevent standing water.
