Free parking for Lake Vyrnwy walks and birdwatching
Llyn Efyrnwy Car Park is a free, council-managed gravel lay-by located near Llanfyllin Road, providing access to Llyn Efyrnwy (Lake Vyrnwy) and its surrounding nature reserve. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 40 vehicles; open from dawn until dusk, no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. A large National Trust information board at the entrance outlines lakeside and dam walking routes (7 km circular), birdwatching hides (0.1 km), and fishing regulations. Benches and picnic tables are positioned at the lot perimeter overlooking the reservoir. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the lakeside walking trail (0.05 km) and to the visitor centre café (0.3 km). Seasonal guided wildlife walks occur every Saturday between April and September. Maintenance crews clear invasive species quarterly and perform litter picks monthly.
