Free parking for Horseshoe Falls weir and canal walk
Horseshoe Falls Car Park is a free, council-managed tarmac surface lot located on the B5103, providing access to the famous horseshoe weir on the River Dee and the Llangollen Canals aqueduct feeder. The facility accommodates approximately 50 marked bays, including four Blue Badge spaces and one motorcycle bay. It operates 7 am9 pm daily; no overnight parking. LED lamp posts provide limited illumination until dusk, and CCTV cameras monitor the entrance only. A large interpretation board at the entrance presents historical context of Thomas Telfords canal works, maps of the 2 km Horseshoe Falls walking route, and wildlife-spotting tips (e.g., kingfishers, otters). Benches and picnic tables are placed near the lot perimeter overlooking the river. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the weir viewing platform (0.05 km) and to connecting footpaths toward Llantysilio Chapel (3 km). Seasonal tourist bus drop-offs reduce capacity by 10; signage directs drivers to the Llangollen Pavilion overflow lot (2 km). Maintenance crews repaint bay lines each spring and clear litter weekly.
