Free parking for The Lawley hikes and AONB walks
Lawley Car Park is a free, council-managed gravel lot located off an unnamed lane near The Lawley viewpoint, serving Church Stretton hiking trails on The Lawley ridge. The unmarked facility accommodates around 25 vehicles on a first-come basis; open dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. A Shropshire Hills AONB information board at the entrance outlines trail maps for the 6 km circular climb to The Lawley summit, geological notes on limestone outcrops, and wildlife-spotter tips (e.g., red grouse, skylarks). Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the Shropshire Plain. Pedestrian paths lead directly to The Lawley summit trailhead (0.05 km) and to connecting footpaths toward Carding Mill Valley (5 km). Seasonal guided walks reduce capacity by 5; signage directs drivers to the Church Stretton P+R on Central Avenue (3 km). Maintenance crews clear invasive gorse quarterly and perform litter picks monthly.
