Central multi-level parking with ANPR and direct stadium access
Located immediately behind St James Park Stadium and adjacent to Newcastle Universitys Kings Road campus, Leazes Park Road Car Park is a three-level, 300-space multistorey facility operated by the City Council. The reinforced concrete structure features epoxy-coated decks for slip resistance, clear wayfinding arrows, and pedestrian footbridges linking directly to the South Stand concourse (during match days) and to Leazes Park itself. Operating 24/7, entry and exit are controlled via ANPR cameras; payments of £3.50 per hour (capped at £20 for 24 hours) are made at pay-on-foot machines on each floor, accepting coin, card, or smartphone app. Twenty-four accessible bays are distributed evenly across all levels, each located within 10 m of lift lobbies; lifts are audited monthly for safety compliance. Lighting is provided by low-glare LED fixtures mounted overhead, ensuring uniform illumination without dark spots; CCTV covers every bay and ramp, with 24-hour monitoring by the Councils control room. Regular structural inspections (every six months) are conducted to examine expansion joints and concrete integrity. During football-match days, shuttle buses run from the car park to the stadiums West Gate every ten minutes, and on non-match days, direct foot access to Northumberland Street and Newcastle University students union is via the pedestrian plaza. In 2024, the car park underwent a full repaint of line markings and replacement of aged barrier arms to minimize queue times.
