Lower Shawfield Car Park is a council-run, surfaced parking area nestled at the base of Otley Chevin Forest Park, providing convenient access to the main picnic areas and walking routes. The tarmac lot holds around 80 cars, with 4 disabled bays near the entrance pay-machine kiosk. Electric vehicle charging points (2 bays, 7 kW chargers) have been installed along the southern perimeter, balanced by several cycle racks close to the forest entrance. Strategically positioned adjacent to the Chevin Forest Park Visitor Centrecomplete with public restrooms, drinking water, and information boardsthe facility is ideal for families, dog walkers, and nature groups. Paths from the car park ascend gently into Pateley Wood, leading hikers to the Druids Cave, the Otley Chevin viewpoint, and onward to Long Shell Scar. Entry barriers operate from 08:00 to 18:00 (extended to 20:00 in summer), and pay-and-display fees are £1.00 per hour, capped at £5.00 per day, payable via cash, card, or the MiPermit app. Regular ranger patrols ensure safety, and the site is lit after dusk until the closing time.
