Free parking for Monsal Trail cycling, Chee Dale hikes, and viaduct views
Millers Dale Car Park is a free, Peak District National Park Authoritymanaged tarmac facility located on the A6 at Wormhill, serving visitors exploring the Monsal Trail, Chee Dale, and the historic railway viaduct. The lot provides 120 marked bays, including six Blue Badge spaces near the entrance and two motorcycle bays. It operates from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking is allowed. There is no lighting or CCTV; park in daylight hours only. A Park Authority noticeboard at the entrance provides detailed maps of the 8 km Monsal Trail, information on local limestone gorges, and guidelines for safe rail trail cycling. Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the River Wye. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the Monsal Trail head (100 m) and onward to Chee Dale (3 km). Seasonal cycling events and car-free days reduce capacity by 20%; overflow drivers are directed to Tideswell Dale Car Park (5 km) with shuttle bus on event weekends. Maintenance teams clear litter monthly and inspect drainage quarterly.
