Secure underground parking with RFID access and EV charging
Newcastle Helix Garage is a two-level underground facility offering 250 secure bays for development tenants, visitors, and UTC students. Access is via barrier-controlled gates using an RFID fob or event-issued ticket. Ground Floor features 20 accessible bays adjacent to the lift bank; these are 3.6 m wide with tactile guiding strips and drop-kerb slopes into each bay. The reinforced concrete decks have epoxy resin-coated floors for slip resistance, and were last cleaned and resealed in early 2025. The garage is illuminated by overhead LED panels with motion sensors, dimming to 20% when no movement is detected. Twenty-four CCTV cameras with night vision cover all aisles, ramps, and entry points. A dedicated motorcycle parking zone with 15 bays is located near the stairwell. Pedestrian exits lead directly to the Helix plaza via protected walkways. In 2024, two 22 kW EV charging points were installed on Level 1, reserved through the helix parking portal.
