Campus parking with EV charging and accessible bays
NTU Upper Close Car Park serves the Brackenhurst Campus off Upper Close in Southwell, providing 120 tarmacadam bays for staff, students, and visitors. Access is controlled via barrier gates; permit holders use RFID cards for entry 24/7, while day visitors obtain a code from reception. Fourteen accessible bays (3.6 m wide) are located within 20 m of the main agricultural science building entrance, each featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. Uniform LED column lighting on 10 m poles ensures coverage after dusk, and six CCTV cameras with license-plate capture monitor all entry, exit, and aisles. In 2024, a 22 kW EV charging station with four bays was installed adjacent to the accessible bays, bookable via the NTU parking portal. Covered cycle racks for 50 bicycles are located near the building entrance to encourage sustainable travel. Perimeter hedgerow planting aids stormwater management and provides a visual buffer to surrounding farmland. Directional signage inside the lot guides drivers to the exit onto Upper Close. Monthly maintenance includes barrier mechanism tests, litter clearance, and inspection of drainage trenches.
