Free parking for Old Oswestry Iron Age hill fort visits
Old Oswestry Hill Fort Car Park is a free Natural England-managed gravel lot on an unnamed lane off the B5069 near Gobowen, providing access to the Iron Age hill fort. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 50 vehicles on a first-come basis; open dawn until dusk, no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. An interpretation board at the entrance displays archaeological information, conservation guidelines, and walking trail maps (2 km loop to the summit). Benches are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the Shropshire Plain. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the hill fort entrance (0.05 km) and to connecting footpaths toward the River Morda (1 km). Seasonal archaeological tours reduce capacity by 15; signage directs drivers to the Gobowen Station overflow lot (1 km). Quarterly maintenance includes vegetation management and litter clearance.
