Central town parking with accessible bays and pay-and-display convenience
Orbis Car Park is a council-operated surface lot providing 100 bays on High Street adjacent to Gateshead Central Library. Open 8 am 8 pm Monday Saturday (free Sundays), tariffs are £1 per hour, capped at £5/day, payable at two on-site machines (coin, card, contactless) or via RingGo. Six accessible bays are positioned 10 m from the pedestrian crossing to the library entrance, featuring drop-kerbs and tactile guidance. The asphalt surface was resurfaced in mid-2024, and thermoplastic bay markings renewed in late 2024. LED column lighting ensures safety after dusk, and CCTV cameras cover all rows. Seasonal planters line the western roadway, enhancing aesthetics and controlling stormwater runoff. Bi-monthly maintenance includes litter clearance, pothole repairs, and inspection of surface drainage channels.
