Pen y Ffordd Car Park is a free, council-managed gravel lay-by located on the edge of Dyfnant Forest, providing access to forest trails and the nearby Dyfnant Lake. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 35 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. A Forestry Commission information panel at the entrance illustrates trail maps for the 5 km Dyfnant Forest circuit, mountain biking routes, and wildlife-spotting tips (red kites, roe deer). Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the forest edge. Pedestrian trails lead directly into Dyfnant Forest (0.05 km) and onward to the historical medieval drovers route (2 km). Seasonal mountain bike races reduce capacity by 10; signage directs drivers to the Moel y Golfa overflow lot (3 km). Maintenance crews clear invasive Rhododendron quarterly and conduct litter picks monthly.
