Community parking with EV charging and accessible bays
Plainsman Car Park is a council-operated surfaced lot offering 80 bays serving the Mapperley Plains local shops and community facilities. Operating hours are 8 am8 pm MondaySaturday (free Sundays), with a pay-and-display tariff of £0.80 per hour, capped at £5 per day, payable via machines accepting coins, card, contactless, or via PayByPhone. Four accessible bays (3.6 m wide) lie within 10 m of the raised pedestrian crossing leading to the Mapperley Forum community center, featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. The asphalt surface was resurfaced in late 2023, and bay markings were refreshed in early 2024. Uniform LED column lighting on 10 m poles ensures visibility after dusk, and two CCTV cameras with varifocal lenses monitor all entry, exit, and aisle areas. In 2024, a 7 kW EV charging point was added near the accessible bays, bookable via the Pod Point app. Perimeter shrub beds assist with stormwater management and provide a visual buffer to adjacent residential terraces. Directional signage inside the lot guides drivers to the exit onto Mapperley Plains. Monthly maintenance includes pay machine servicing, litter clearance, and drainage gully inspections.
