Overflow parking for Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Cefn-Mawr
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Additional Car Park is a paid, council-operated tarmac lot located on Queen Street in Cefn-Mawr, serving as the overflow parking facility for the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct when the main car park is full. The facility offers 80 marked bays, including five Blue Badge spaces near the entrance and one motorcycle bay. It operates 8 am8 pm daily; pay-and-display charges of £2.00 for up to three hours, £4.00 for up to six hours, and £6.00 for all-day parking via machines accepting coins and contactless. LED lamp posts provide illumination until dusk, and CCTV cameras monitor the lot. Pedestrian pathways lead to a shuttle bus stop (only on peak summer weekends) providing transport to the aqueduct visitor centre (3 km), as well as to local shops (0.1 km) and bus stops servicing Wrexham and Llangollen. Two 7 kW EV chargers are installed at no cost for registered users, billed via QR code. Seasonal peak months reduce capacity by 20; signage directs drivers to local street parking if full. Maintenance crews repaint bay lines twice yearly and clear litter weekly.
