Free parking for Long Mynd summit and town centre access
Mynd View Car Park is a free, council-operated tarmac surface lot located on Ashford Road, serving Craven Arms town centre and the Long Mynd summit viewpoint. The facility offers 45 marked bays, including three Blue Badge spaces near the viewpoint access and one motorcycle bay. It operates 8 am8 pm daily; no overnight parking. LED lamp posts provide illumination until dusk, and CCTV cameras monitor the entrance only. An information board at the site outlines trail maps for the 5 km summit walk to Stiperstones, geological notes on local rock formations, and safety advisories for hill walking. Pedestrian pathways lead directly to the Long Mynd viewpoint (0.05 km) and onward to Carding Mill Valley (6 km). Two 7 kW EV chargers are installed at no cost for walkers, billed via a posted phone number. Seasonal charity walking events reduce capacity by 10; signage directs drivers to the Brampton Bryan overflow lot (2 km). Weekly maintenance includes bay repainting and litter clearance.
