Although primarily a bicycle parking facility, Sainsburys Bike Lock Cemetery is situated in the supermarkets rear service area on Etherstone Avenue. Designed exclusively for two-wheeled cycles, the site contains 150 secure Sheffield-style bike racks and six covered locking bays. Open 24/7 for customers, it is lit by motion-sensor LED floodlights only activated when movement is detected, minimizing light pollution. CCTV cameras with 360° coverage monitor all rack areas, and a keypad-controlled barrier restricts access to Sainsburys cardholders and registered cyclists. Informational signage outlines safe locking practices and local cycle route maps. The concrete floor was resurfaced in late 2024, with drainage grates installed to prevent water pooling. Bike racks are mounted on a raised, anti-rust galvanized platform. The site is patrolled by store security between 7 am and 11 pm.
