Shooting Box car park Long Mynd

Free parking for Long Mynd and Stiperstones hikes

Be the first to review

Shooting Box Car Park is a free, council-operated gravel lot located in the Long Mynd area, serving hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Situated at an elevation of approximately 380 m, it provides access to the popular Stiperstones ridge and other moorland trails. The unmarked facility accommodates around 30 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk, no overnight parking. No lighting or CCTV; daytime use only. An information board at the entrance outlines safety advice for moorland walking, trail grades (3 km to 10 km), and local wildlife (e.g., red grouse, skylarks). Benches are positioned at the lot perimeter overlooking panoramic views of Clun Valley. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the Stiperstones Footpath (0.05 km) and to connecting trails toward Carding Mill Valley (4 km). Seasonal conservation workdays occur quarterly, focusing on peatland restoration. Maintenance crews clear invasive gorse biannually and remove litter monthly.
