Free parking for Snailbeach historic lead mine and hill walks
Snailbeach Car Park is a free, council-managed gravel lay-by located on an unnamed lane off the B4370, providing access to the Snailbeach Historic Lead Mine and surrounding hill-country walks. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 30 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime use only. An interpretation board at the entrance details the sites industrial heritage, maps of the 4 km circular mine trail, and wildlife-spotting guides (e.g., skylarks, rare orchids). Benches and picnic tables are provided near the lot perimeter overlooking the Shropshire hills. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the mine visitor centre (0.1 km) and onward to the village of Snailbeach (1 km). Seasonal guided mine tours reduce capacity by 10; drivers are directed to the adjacent village hall overflow car park (0.5 km). Maintenance crews clear invasive scrub quarterly and perform litter picks monthly.
