Free rural parking for downland walks
Spreadeagle Hill Car Park in Compton Abbas (SP7 0NB) provides 20 gravel-reinforced bays for hill walkers and wildlife observers. Open daily from sunrise to sunset (approximately 6 am8 pm in summer), parking is free but limited; overflow directs to roadside laybys. No lighting or EV charging is available to protect the areas dark-sky status. A single disabled bay with firm grass pad is located near the gate. A short trail leads directly to the Compton Abbas airfield viewpoint and downland routes within a 5-minute walk. Occasional ramblers association volunteers patrol to maintain waymarking and ensure visitor safety.
