Coastal parking for St Marys Island access.
St Marys Island (South) Car Park is a council-operated, tarmacked lot positioned on The Links, Whitley Bay (NE26 4RS), serving visitors to St Marys Island and the historic lighthouse museum. The facility accommodates approximately 120 vehicles, including ten accessible bays closest to the pedestrian exit onto the coastal path. Pay-and-display applies MondaySaturday 08:0018:00 at £2.00 per hour, with no maximum stay; Sundays are free. LED lighting columns provide illumination from dusk until midnight, and CCTV cameras cover all circulation aisles. Pedestrian pathways lead directly to the southern causeway (0.1 miles), allowing access to St Marys Island at low tide and to the perched lighthouse, which operates as a museum during summer weekends. The surface was resurfaced in 2022 with fresh bay markings, and stone drainage channels along the perimeter prevent water pooling. A volunteer team conducts monthly litter picks and assists with birdwatching interpretation, as the island supports coastal seabird nesting.
