Free parking for Stiperstones Ridge and knoll walks
Stiperstones Knolls Car Park is a free, Natural Englandmanaged gravel lay-by located off the B4371, serving as the primary access point to the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 60 vehicles on a first-come basis; open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime visits only. A large noticeboard at the entrance provides detailed trail maps for the 5 km Ridgeway Path and shorter 2 km circular knoll walk, geological information on quartzite tors, and wildlife spotter guides (e.g., adder, mountain hare). Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking the surrounding moorland. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the ridge summit trailhead (0.05 km) and onward to the boggy basin area (1 km). Seasonal guided nature walks occur weekly between May and September, reducing capacity by 10; signage directs drivers to the alternative Snailbeach Car Park (5 km). Maintenance crews clear invasive bracken quarterly and conduct litter picks monthly.
