Free parking for Sycharth Castle heritage and walks
Sycharth Castle Car Park is a free National Trust gravel lay-by located off the B4396, serving the ruined medieval Sycharth Castle site and nearby picnic areas. The unmarked area accommodates around 30 vehicles on a first-come basis and is open from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking. There is no lighting or CCTV; daytime use only. A large information panel at the entrance provides historical context on Owain Glynd?rs fortress, site safety guidelines, and waymarked walking routes (1.5 km loop). Benches are placed at the lot perimeter overlooking rolling countryside. Pedestrian paths lead directly to the castle ruins (0.1 km) and to the Offas Dyke Path (0.5 km). Seasonal guided heritage walks occur monthly from April to October. Maintenance crews clear invasive vegetation quarterly and carry out litter picks fortnightly.
