Free town centre parking near High Street and river
The Groe Car Park is a free council-managed tarmac surface lot located on Castle Street, Builth Wells, serving the market towns High Street shops, cafés, and the Adelicia Dome. The facility offers 70 marked bays, including five Blue Badge spaces near the town hall entrance and two motorcycle bays. It operates 8 am6 pm daily; no pay-and-display machines are installed, but wardens enforce a 2 hour maximum stay. Overnight parking is prohibited. LED lamp posts ensure illumination until midnight, and CCTV cameras monitor the entrance only. Pedestrian exits lead directly to the High Street (0.05 km), Livestock Market Hall (0.1 km), and river bridge crossing the River Wye (0.2 km). Two 7 kW EV charging bays are available free for town residents, billed via a posted phone number. Seasonal livestock fairs reduce capacity by 20; signage directs drivers to the Royal Welsh Showground overflow lot (1 km). Weekly maintenance includes bay repainting and litter clearance.
