Secure school parking with EV charging and accessible bays
The Minster School Car Park is a secure, surfaced lot providing 50 bays exclusively for staff and visitor parking at The Minster School and adjacent Southwell Minster. Entry is barrier-controlled via RFID cards for staff 24/7; visitors obtain temporary codes from main reception valid for up to four hours. Four accessible bays (3.6 m wide) are located within 10 m of the main school entrance, each featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. The tarmacadam surface was resurfaced in late 2023, and thermoplastic bay markings were refreshed in early 2024. Uniform LED column lighting ensures glare-free coverage after dusk, and four CCTV cameras with motion detection maintain 24/7 surveillance. In 2024, a 7 kW EV charging point was installed near the accessible bays, booked via the schoolÂ’s parking portal. Covered cycle racks for 30 bicycles encourage sustainable travel. Perimeter planting with native hedgerows provides a natural barrier to adjacent residential properties and aids stormwater management. Directional signage inside the lot directs drivers to the exit onto Eastgate. Monthly maintenance includes barrier checks, litter clearance, and drainage gully inspections.
