Community centre parking with free initial stay and accessible bays
Situated immediately behind the Wells Road Community Centre, this surfaced asphalt car park provides 75 marked bays for visitors to the centres fitness facilities, meeting rooms, and café. Operating daily from 7 am10 pm, it offers free parking for the first two hours via pay-and-display machines (coin, card, contactless) or the RingGo app; thereafter a tariff of £0.80 per hour applies (capped at £5/day). Eight accessible bays (3.6 m wide) are located within 10 m of the main pedestrian entrance, each with drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. Uniform LED column lighting ensures bright, glare-free illumination after dusk, and six CCTV cameras with motion detection maintain 24-hour surveillance. In 2024 the tarmac surface was resurfaced and bay markings refreshed. Perimeter planting of native shrubs screens adjacent housing and assists stormwater drainage. Pedestrian crossings with raised kerbs guide users safely to the centres front doors. Monthly inspections cover pay-machine functionality, lighting, and surface condition.
