Free parking for Tideswell Dale walks and historical site visits
Tideswell Dale Car Park is a free, Peak District National Park Authoritymanaged surface tarmac facility located on the B6049 road in Tideswell Dale, serving hikers, nature enthusiasts, and historical site visitors. The lot provides 60 marked bays, including four Blue Badge spaces near the pedestrian exit and one motorcycle bay. It operates from dawn until dusk; no overnight parking is allowed. There is no lighting or CCTV; park during daylight hours only. An interpretive noticeboard at the entrance provides maps for the 5 km Tideswell Dale circular, information on local limestone gorges, and historical notes on medieval lead mining. Benches and picnic tables are positioned near the lot perimeter overlooking Tideswell Dale gorge. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the River Wye footpath (100 m), the Grade I listed Tideswell parish church (500 m), and onward to Hartington (4 km). Seasonal guided heritage walks reduce capacity by 15%; overflow parking directs drivers to Litton Car Park (3 km) with a shuttle service during event weekends. Maintenance crews clear litter monthly and inspect drainage quarterly.
