Free wildlife reserve parking with accessible bays and natural setting
Watchwood Car Park is a free rural surface lot located off Gravelly Hollow Road, serving visitors to the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust reserve and local walking trails. The lot accommodates 40 vehicles on compacted stone, operating from dawn until dusk (approx. 6 am8 pm in summer; 7 am6 pm in winter). No formal lighting is installed to minimize disturbance to wildlife; visitors are advised to park and leave only during daylight hours. Two accessible bays surfaced with firm rolled stone are positioned nearest the entrance to the reserve footpath, each featuring drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving strips. A notice board at the lot entrance provides maps of trails, habitat information, and conservation guidelines. In 2024, the lot was regraded and additional gravel applied to level low spots; perimeter drainage ditches prevent surface water buildup. A single CCTV camera mounted on a wooden post offers limited monitoring during operational hours. Volunteer wardens conduct daily patrols between 8 am and 6 pm for litter clearance, trail maintenance, and visitor assistance.
