Free Parking for Multiple Woodland & Nature Reserve Trails
Wheata, Wharncliffe & Greno Woods Car Park is a surface-level facility located off Woodhead Road, serving as a shared access point for Wheata Quarry, Wharncliffe Woods, and Greno Woods nature reserves. The lot provides approximately 120 gravel-surfaced bays, including six accessible spaces near the central entrance. Operating 7 am–7 pm daily, parking is free; no payment machines or permits are required. No CCTV coverage or lighting is provided, so daytime visits are advised. Multiple marked trails branch off from the lot entrance, leading to popular walking routes, rock climbing spots, and picnic areas within a three-minute walk. Informational boards at the entrance detail trail maps, historical quarry information, and wildlife sightings. Local bus stops on Barnsley Road offer limited services to Sheffield City Centre and Chapeltown. EV charging is not available on-site; the nearest rapid charger is at Chapeltown Park Car Park, a 15-minute drive away. Covered cycle racks accommodating up to 12 bicycles are provided near the lot entrance to encourage eco-friendly travel for outdoor enthusiasts. Seasonal gravel maintenance prevents muddy surfaces and ensures stable ground for visitors.
