Daylight parking for park and leisure visitors with accessible bays
Woodthorpe Park Car Park at Pelham House provides 90 gravel-surfaced bays for visitors to Woodthorpe Grange Park and the adjacent Pelham House Leisure Centre. Operating hours are dawn to dusk (approx. 6 am8 pm summer; 7 am6 pm winter); no artificial lighting is installed to maintain the parks nocturnal habitat. Four accessible bays surfaced with rolled gravel are located within 15 m of the main park pavilion entrance, each equipped with drop-kerb ramps and tactile paving. A single CCTV camera mounted on the leisure centre façade provides limited monitoring during opening hours. In 2024, gravel regrading and compaction were performed bi-annually to maintain a level surface, and additional drainage trenches were added along the eastern perimeter to prevent water pooling. A volunteer-staffed information board at the entrance offers park maps, fitness trail details, and wildlife guidelines. Covered cycle racks for 30 bicycles and two e-bike charging points (5 kW each) encourage sustainable travel. Monthly park ranger patrols conduct litter clearance, trail maintenance, and visitor assistance.
