Free parking for Pym Chair and Kinder Scout hikes
Pym Chair Car Park is a free, Peak District National Park Authoritymanaged tarmac and gravel lot located on High Peak Road, serving hikers accessing Pym Chair, Lantern Pike, and the Kinder Scout plateau. The unmarked facility accommodates approximately 50 vehicles on a first-come basis; it opens at dawn and closes at dusk; no overnight stays. There is no lighting or CCTV; park during daylight hours recommended. A National Park information board displays maps for the 8 km Kinder Scout circular walk, details on terrain difficulty, and safety guidance. Benches and picnic tables are provided near the lot perimeter overlooking the Edale valley. Pedestrian trails lead directly to the Pym Chair ridge ascent (100 m) and onward to Edale (5 km). Seasonal guided walking events reduce capacity by 10; overflow parking is directed to Upper Booth Car Park (3 km) with rated shuttle service. Maintenance crews clear litter monthly and remove invasive bracken quarterly.
